October 2018

Nearly 1,000 engineers represented by SPEEA, IFPTE Local 2001, at Spirit AeroSystems in Wichita, Kansas, approved a new six-year contract by a significant margin. The new contract provides annual raises, increased overtime pay, parental leave, increased job protections and a $4,000 signing bonus. Employees also agreed to changes to the medical plans that phase in during the contract.

While corporate America continues to reduce or eliminate overtime for exempt employees, engineers at Spirit AeroSystems negotiated new overtime pay at straight time plus $8.50. The agreement maintains Compensated Incidental Time (CIT), which allows employees to flex their first four hours of overtime during the pay period or bank the first four hours for future use at the employee’s discretion.

Additional changes to this contract include increased raise pools from the previous contract, providing four years of guaranteed market-based increases and two years of the greater of 3.5 % or market increases.  Improvements were also made on job-protection language from layoffs when non-direct employee sources are working in the same job classification in Sedgwick County, Kansas.
